Local fighters get big stage on undercard of Strikeforce Nashville

They won’t be on television, but some of Middle Tennessee’s top mixed martial arts fighters will showcase their abilities on the undercard of Strikeforce Nashville, the April 17 event at Bridgestone Arena, which will be televised live nationally by CBS.

The undercard, announced Monday, includes 11 Tennessee-based fighters. Four bouts will pit local competitors against one another. The rundown:

• Justin "The Punisher'' Pennington (debut) vs. Dustin Ortiz (1-0) – 125 pounds

• Hunter "The Future'' Worsham (5-1) vs. Zach "Thunderwood''
Underwood (5-2) – 185 pounds

• Thomas Campbell (3-0) vs. Cody Floyd (3-0) – 145 pounds

• Andy "Stunner'' Uhrich (4-0) vs. Dustin West (2-2) – 170 pounds.

Also scheduled to fight are former University of Tennessee linebacker Ovince Saint Preux, Murfreesboro’s Muhammad "King Mo" Lawal and Josh "The Warhammer'' Shockman.

Ortiz won his professional debut in one minute a little more than a month ago.

Worsham, the son of MMA pioneer Cal Worsham is in the U.S. Army and stationed in Ft. Campbell.

Campbell was named Amateur of the Year for 2009 by one MMA website and won his most recent bout in 37 seconds.

The televised portion of the event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Jake Shields, who has won 13 straight, and former Olympic wrestler Dan Henderson.
