On the road, in a new Southeastern Conference environment, Vanderbilt quickly jumped ahead of the 22nd ranked team in the country.

Then the Commodores ran into a buzzsaw.

Missouri ripped off an unimaginable 38-4 run in the first half and never looked back as Vanderbilt suffered an 81-59 loss on Saturday. The defeat snapped the Commodores' two-game win streak.

The Tigers (15-4, 4-2) jumped out to a 49-20 halftime lead. Vanderbilt (8-10, 2-4) opened the second half with a 19-7 run but couldn’t get closer than 17 points.

The Commodores led 11-8 early in the second half before Missouri took off and scored nearly 40 points in almost 13 minutes. The Tigers made seven 3-pointers during the stretch and were up 46-15 with 2:40 before halftime.

Vanderbilt entered with the league’s best 3-point defense, allowing SEC opponents to make just 25.5 percent. Missouri, though, made 11 of 21.

The Commodores also struggled to keep the Tigers off the boards. Missouri dominated the glass 40-18 as Alex Oriakhi collected a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jabari Brown led all scorers with 21 points and Missouri had four players score in double figures.

For Vanderbilt, Rod Odom tied a career-high with 17 points. Kedren Johnson added 11.

All that game proved was that Woody Harrelson was right. White men can't jump!

Just another 30 point blow out loss. Hope mizoo didn't hurt themselves laughing at halftime. Put these guys in the basement, shut the door and forfeit the season. Stop embarrassing the fans.

Baseball starts in 9 days. May it come quickly.

Go Dores, Preds, Titans! Go Nashville a great place to live!

Not going to have a winning team every year. Vandy is a great university with a very good athletic program. Stallings is a very good coach. Kicking someone when they are down is a disgrace and is not supporting the team. The team and coach deserve better from their fans. Go, Vandy! Keep plugging away.

lifelong vandy fan here and yes they got thumped..but id see it as they got educated..im not gonna bad talk this team or any other team vandy puts out...these kids are young, have no big man on the inside, but they will get the ship righted sooner than later...this yr is going to be a tough one like i have said on here before...just like a newborn child, you have to crawl before you walk, walk before you run and run before you jump...this is going to be a valuable season for these guys..they are gaining experience only this can teach them..remember they only sat on the bench except for a few that got to spell others so they could catch their breathe...kevin is a great coach and will teach these guys and bring em along..just like brad daugherty said at the beginning of the game, they will have to be molded into players at this level..so go vandy, your true fans are here for the duration, thick and thin times and all...you will see better days...

One of my optimist high school friends who is recovering from his second bankruptcy in the last 22 years said it best, "It is better to lose most of your games rather than all of your games."

I think that would be an appropriate positive statement about Vanderbilt basketball this year.
