Vanderbilt earned the nation's No. 1 overall seed when the NCAA Baseball Tournament brackets and pairings were announced Monday.

The top-ranked Commodores will host one of 16 national regionals and will take on Austin Peay on Friday. Memphis and Michigan will also be part of the Vanderbilt regional.

The Vanderbilt-Austin Peay game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. Memphis and Michigan will play at 2 p.m. Regionals are played in a double-elimination format.

VU will make its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance and third in four years under fifth-year coach Tim Corbin.

"It is the first time in Vanderbilt history that we have been able to put on an event like this," Corbin said. "The kids have played extremely well all year and deserve something like this. It was a goal at the beginning of the season to play at home in trying to get to Omaha (for the College World Series). We accomplished it and now we have got to take advantage of it."

In anticipation of hosting a regional, Vanderbilt recently added 1,500 temporary bleacher seats at Hawkins Field, bringing stadium capacity to about 3,700.

Top-ranked Vanderbilt is 51-11 this season and won both the SEC regular-season and tournament championships.
