Pekka Rinne will be minding the nets for the Nashville Predators for at least two more years after the team extended his contract with $6.8 million through 2012, it was announced Wednesday.
General Manager David Poile said the team plans to make a formal announcement soon, but added that the starting goaltender would receive $2.8 million next season; $4 million the year after.
At the end of the season, Rinne would have been an unrestricted free agent if the team did not re-sign him.
Rinne's season record is 20-12-4 at the Olympic break, along with a .902 save percentage. He has split some time in net with teammate Dan Ellis, from whom he took the starter's job last season.
