Prep Notebook: Titans’ Finnegan, Cramer to speak at NCS football camp

Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan and fullback Casey Cramer are confirmed speakers this week at the Nashville Christian School Junior Eagle football camp.

The camp, directed by NCS head coach Charlie Lansdell, is for kindergarten though fifth-graders. Lansdell indicated Finnegan would speak at the camp Wednesday in the 9-11:30 a.m. area. The camp runs through Thursday, when Cramer will speak at 11 a.m.

”We’re going 9-12 a.m. each day,’’ Lansdell said. “And we’re very excited about our speakers from the Titans, we have some really quality people coming.’’

BGA hosts Thornton Iron Camp: Battle Ground Academy in Franklin will host a first Thornton DI Iron Sharpens Defensive Skills Camp Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., conducted by the Titans star David Thornton. The camp for ages 7-17 will involve instruction from Thornton, along with local high school coaches and DI training experts.

Each participant will receive lunch, camp T-shirt, camp poster, Bible and the opportunity to win prizes. Cost is $99 for the public and $79 for DI members. To register, call Mike Gregory at 415-4747 or go to mike.gregory@d1sportstraining.com.

Cartwright player of year:
Goodpasture shortstop Kelsey Cartwright has been named the Gatorade state softball player of the year. Cartwright, an Auburn signee, hit .480 with 12 homers in leading her team to the 2A state final.

Jezierny named at Independence:
Clint Jezierny, the interim coach the past season, has been named head softball coach at Independence High. He announced tryouts will be held at the school July 27-29.
