Preps: CPA boys advance to semifinals of prestigious tournament in Bristol

Christ Presbyterian Academy got off to a roaring start in the prestigious Arby's Classic on Wednesday in Bristol.

The Lions (12-1) crushed host Tennessee High 72-35 behind a well-balanced attack, led by forward Jake Allsmiller who scored a game-high 21 points. Guard Craig Bradshaw added 18, and post player Jalen Lindsey had 15.

With the victory, CPA advanced to Thursday's semifinal.

"It's an unbelievable environment, about 5,000 enthusiastic fans and great basketball,'' CPA coach Drew Maddux said. "We got off to a great start, and played extremely well.''

•  Four of the best girls teams in won winning opening round games Wednesday and advanced Thursday's semifinals at he Franklin Road Academy Christmas Tournament.

David Lipscomb held off a late charge to beat Harding Academy of Memphis 41-36, while Ensworth, CPA and host FRA also won their quarterfinal games.

Ensworth will meet David Lipscomb at 4 p.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. matchup between CPA and FRA. The championship game is at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

• Clarksville and Mount Juliet will play for the championship of the Father Ryan Christmas Tournament.

Mount Juliet beat host Ryan, and Clarksville stopped Centennial in their semifinal games.
