Preps: CPA seeks another trip to state ... weather permitting

Christ Presbyterian starts its bid for another trip to the state soccer tournament Tuesday when the district champ hosts Sycamore in the Region 5-A/AA semifinals.

The game is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. at CPA, but athletic director Mike Ellson announced that the game could be moved up to 4 p.m. because of the prospect of inclement weather. As a last resort, Ellson said the game would be postponed.

Lipscomb, which lost 3-1 to CPA in last week’s district finals, visits White House in the other 5-A/AA semifinal. Finals are Thursday night, with sectionals Saturday.

In the Region 6-AAA semis, McGavock visits Franklin and Ravenwood goes Overton Tuesday night.

State Volleyball: Region 5-AA champ Goodpasture (39-7) which has gotten hot at tournament time, will take on East Ridge in its AA state opener at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at MTSU.

Region 6-AAA champ Ravenwood (45-8) meets Karns at 9 a.m. and Independence (29-13) faces Soddy-Daisy at 1:30 p.m. in their respective AAA openers at MTSU Wednesday.

In the DII-AA tournament, Ensworth (29-7) meets St. Agnes Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Blackman High School.

State qualifiers: According to the TSSAA web site release Monday, McGavock and Overton (District 12), along with Franklin and Brentwood (district 11) all have qualified for the Class AAA football playoffs.

Maplewood, Pearl-Cohn and Goodpasture all have qualified in AA.

Nashville Christian School, winner of eight straight, qualified in A. It will be the school’s first playoff appearance since 2000.
