Vanderbilt has been picked to win the Southeastern Conference Eastern division in a vote by league baseball coaches, the SEC announced on Tuesday.

Arkansas was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the regular-season championship, along with the SEC West title. The Razorbacks, ranked as preseason No. 1 in three of the fourth national polls, earned nine first-place votes.

Vanderbilt, ranked as high as second nationally, received three first-place votes and was picked second for the overall championship, with Kentucky and LSU earning the other first-place votes.

In divisional voting, the Commodores received 89 of a possible 91 points and 12 first-place votes in the East. Florida was second, Kentucky and South Carolina each tied for third and received first-place votes, Georgia was picked fifth, Tennessee sixth and SEC newcomer Missouri seventh.

In the West, Arkansas earned 12-first place votes, LSU and Mississippi State followed with one each. Ole Miss was picked fourth, the league’s other newest team, Texas A&M, projected fifth, Alabama sixth and Auburn seventh.

Vanderbilt opens its season Friday with a three-game series against Long Beach State at Hawkins Field.

The Commodores went 35-28 last year, reached an NCAA Regional and the championship game of the SEC tournament and placed fourth in the SEC East.

Once again, just winning the division will be the toughest task. Of the top 5 teams in the East, Vandy, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia, all will be ranked in the top 15 in the country at some point in the season. Baseball in the SEC is more competetive than football from top to bottom.

Thank God, throw out the bats and put the basketballs away before I commit suicide watching this years comedy of errors on the hardwood.
