Deonte Alexander led all scorers with 15 points but Lipscomb struggled to score in the second half and lost 82-48 to Mercer on Wednesday, the opening day of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament at Macon, Ga.

The Bisons (12-19) missed their final five shots and 25 of 32 over the final 20 minutes, when they were outscored 49-23. Talbott Denny’s jumper with 2:34 to play was their only points in the last 4:14.

The loss ended Lipscomb’s season.

The first of Alexander’s four 3-pointers tied it 3-3 nearly three minutes into the contest and Martin Smith’s layup 1:30 later gave the Bisons their only lead, 5-4.

Mercer (23-10), the tournament’s No. 1 seed, scored the next nine points, led by as many as 12 points in the first half and pulled away throughout the second.

Smith scored 10 points and Khion Sankey had a game-high nine rebounds for Lipscomb, which shot 32.7 percent from the field and had more turnovers (19) than field goals.

Langston Hall led Mercer with 12 points and 10 assists. Three others scored in double figures.

Hey coach, remember when you said it was "very, very difficult to get to the big dance" earlier this week? Well, looks like you were right.
