For the second straight year, a Vanderbilt golfer won the Tennessee Women’s Amateur Championship.

Lauren Stratton, a rising senior from Spring Hill, won her first Tennessee Amateur title over the weekend when she defeated Ashley Averitt 4 and 2 in the 18-hole final at Foxland Harbor Golf Course in Gallatin.

Stratton won five matches and edged Averitt, an Oakland, Tenn., native and a recent graduate of Austin Peay, to cap off the five-day, 32-golfer tournament. She reached the last day by winning 1-up against Kendall Martindale, a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt teammate and last year’s Tennessee Amateur champion.

Stratton, an Independence High product, was named a first-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association last year. She tied for 29th at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships three weeks ago at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
