Two Tennessee State basketball players have been released from their scholarships by new coach John Cooper, the university announced Tuesday.
Guards Gerald Robinson Jr., a sophomore, and Parker Smith, a freshman, were granted their unconditional releases and were free to play next season anywhere they sign.
Robinson, a Nashville native, was the Tigers’ leading scorer and an All-OVC second-team selection in 2008-09. In two seasons he scored 1,021 points, an average of 16.6 per game.
Smith averaged nine points per game as a freshman, when he played in all 30 games and started eight and was named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. He was the Tigers’ top 3-point shooter.
