Titans add to roster

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 9:51pm

The Tennessee Titans made four minor additions to the roster, reportedly claiming linebacker Pago Togafau off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals and signing three players to futures contracts.

The Titans added a pair of defensive ends in Marcus Howard of Georgia and Jay Moore of Nebraska and also signed tackle Nevin McCaskill, who played at Hampton.

Togafau, who played at Idaho State, has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and has 24 tackles in 15 career games. His agent, Allen Cunanan, said he had heard about the Titans' claim, but that neither he nor Togafau had yet had any contact from the team.

Titans made four minor additions to the roster, reportedly claiming linebacker Pago Togafau off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals. Well if anyone watched the Packers and Cardinals game or better put offensive shoot out (51 to 45) I cannot image what the Titans think Pago Togafau will add? Based on the Cardinals not being able to stop the Packers and in need of defensive help they would have let any defensive player worth anything go. I think both teams had a total of two punts for the whole game.

Marcus Howard didn't make the cut at Indy and has been sitting at home since September. A Young fellow whose preseason performance appears to not have impressed anyone in the NFL considering no one picked him up due to injuries. Might be worth another look.

The 49'ers put Jay Moore on IR at the end of 07 season (his rookie season) and didn't resign him in 08. The Rams picked him up in 09 and put him on their practice squad. Again may be worth a look as well

Now Nevin McCaskill I don't get at all. Marcus Howard and Jay Moore are young guys both from schools with tradition of turning out NFL linesmen.

Nevin McCaskil on the other hand has been around the NFL starting as an undrafted free agent in '07 with the Bills, put on their practice squad and later cut in 9/07. Eagles picked him up for their practice squad in '08 and the Jets picked him up for their practice squad and released him 9/09 and was then picked up by the Dolphins 12/09 for their practice squad. All I can say is this guy must have a heck of an agent and why do we need a professional practice squad player? In my opinion go for some undrafted college players and put them on the practice squad if they are not ready.

I had never heard of Hampton University until they picked this guy up. Kiss this money good-bye!

TITAN1, SON BECAUSE BY THE WAY YOUR ARGUMENTS GO YOU ARE YOUNG!! Why would Tenessee add a whole bunch more of rejects to our squad, when half of our practice suad is full of rejects..... You have your eyes close and still refuse to open them. I know you see Field Goal Fisher as a great coach, which BTW he is not is just another 500 coach playing for an owner that is on declining mentally and physically. It is time to win and am not saying win 12 games next year and loose on the first round of the playoffs am talking abouth the big tamale the super bowl...And with players named Marcus Howard ,Jay Moore we ain't going to do that.. They need to invest in big names and winn.. end of this!!

035, thank you. I thought at 54 I was middle aged but since you are an expert and never wrong then I must be young. But, now on to your latest whining rant. By your very negative standards and if you were even a fan of the Titans when we signed KVB, I,ll bet you called him a reject. You see, there have been many instances where a player has become a pro bowler after going to a new team. You refuse to accept the fact that coach Fisher is one of the highest paid coaches for a reason, he is very good. Even the national media has acknowledged many times that he could just about write his on check for many NFL head coach positions. Time to win? I am glad we are competitive most years because that will bring you even more success than being a bottom feeder year in and year out. Good thing, or bad depending on how you look at it because you would probably kill yourself, that you are not a fan of the Browns, Bucs, or Lions. As I said before, when we win the Super Bowl, you will whine and cry if we don't repeat every year. Have you applied for coach Fisher's job yet, sonny?

I see this as another half-ass plan, not a half glass. First we don't have any of our soon to be free agents like KVB signed and until March rolls around we don't know who will be available on the free agent market that we can pick up.

What is see is tying up money on players who are not or where not going anywhere anytime soon with the hope you might be able to do what other teams have not been able to do, make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Now with that said, Marcus Howard and Jay Moore are young guys both from schools with tradition of turning out NFL linesmen and may be worth taking a look at. Both have had injuries and neither have been passed around the league as practice dummies.

On the other hand Nevin McCaskil and Pago Togafau have proven they cannot play at level higher than the practice squad and to jump out there and put money out for these two at this time is as about as dumb as it gets.

Yes KVB among others were finds, but KVB had played and had been hampered by injuries, sort of like Marcus Howard and Jay Moore. KVB was not a career practice squad player and there in lies the difference.

Nope my playing and coaching days are done, I know when to hang it up. Like my old bud JM who played OL at UT, we have bad knees and not sure I could long snap anymore. I never once missed preseason two a day practices in the hot boiling heat and humidity plus daily practice was no picnic either, as a starter or as a coach.

So to go through all that to be on a practice squad, no thanks I will leave it to the wantebee guys and I'll just spend my money on polish for my plaques and trophies.

Thank God!
