The Tennessee Titans released wide receiver Jake Schifino Tuesday and will likely use his roster spot to add a linebacker.
Tennessee has two linebackers on its practice squad in Cody Spencer and Jordan Kramer.
Schifino, a fifth-round draft pick from Akron University in 2002, had been beset by a nagging hamstring problem that has had him inactive in three of the first four games.
Schifino, who tore is left hamstring and missed all his rookie year, was persistently bothered by the injury during training camp, preseason and in the regular season, though MRIs and other tests could not pinpoint the location of the injury.
Schifino did not have any receptions as a Titan, but served as their primary kickoff returner for part of last season. He returned 35 kickoffs for 703, an average of 21.3 yards per return.
