Titans' White proudly announces weight

At the start of practice, LenDale White proudly asked media members to guess his weight.

In the past, White and the Titans had guarded the number with such secrecy that you would have thought it was part of next week’s game plan.

When the guesses game in, one reporter’s answer was right on the money, as White proudly gave up the right guess “234!”

According to White, that is the number he will remain at for the season.

“I’m 234 pounds, and I feel great,” White said. “I feel like this is my best playing weight, and I feel healthy at this weight. I feel like I’m the fast and the strongest at this weight.”

White, who reported for off-season work at 238 pounds, said he hasn’t been this low since his first season with the club.

“I haven’t been 230 since my rookie year. I’ve been 238 or 240, but I haven’t been under the 235 mark since my rookie year,” White said.

He knows that entering the final year of his rookie contract there will be naysayers who take issue with the timing of the weight loss.

“Everybody is going to say it could be because of the contract year. You can decide it however you want to decide it,” White said. “You can do whatever in your mind is going to make you feel better about what I did to make my weight come down. I’ve got friends I see all the time now, friends that play on Pittsburgh or the New York Giants, and they flash those rings all the time, and I want one.”

Practice report

Tight end Jared Cook dropped one pass on a deep ball, but redeemed himself at the end of practice with a diving touchdown grab of a Patrick Ramsey pass in the two-minute offense. Cook also made a nice leaping grab of a pass from Vince Young.

The Titans are splitting Cook out wide a good portion of the time to take advantage of his size and speed combination down the field.

--Justin Gage, who sat out Wednesday’s OTA with a minor leg injury, was back and had several nice grabs on timing routes.

--Rookie receiver Kenny Britt finished practice, but appeared to retweak his hamstring slightly during the middle portion of practice. A frustrated Britt tossed his helmet and was admonished by receivers coach Fred Graves.

--Linebacker Josh Stamer was excused from Friday’s practice, as were Nick Harper and Craig Hentrich. Kevin Mawae (elbow) and Jevon Kearse (knee) continue to be out, though Kearse is running and could see limited action next week.

--Quarterback Vince Young had his ups and downs with a few nice completions, but interceptions by Cortland Finnegan and Tuff Harris.
