JACKSON – Nick Shoup allowed one run on two hits in seven innings as Trevecca Nazarene (35-22) advanced to the championship round of the TranSouth baseball tournament with a 6-1 victory over Freed-Hardeman (35-16) on Wednesday.
Shoup, a senior, only allowed singles in the third and seventh innings before he was replaced at the start of the eighth. He also walked three but struck out nine. He threw 124 total pitches – 77 of them strikes.
Drew Durossette allowed one hit – a single – and one walk over the final two innings.
Leadoff hitter Chris Lowe was 3-for-5 with one run scored and two RBIs, and clean-up hitter Cody Heggie was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Aaron Bree and Trey Morrison also had three hits apiece.
The championship round begins at noon Thursday. The second game, if necessary, will be at 3:30 p.m.
Trevecca, the No. 2 seed, will play either top seeded Cumberland or No. 5 Union.
