Both this season's and last season's leading scorers for the TSU men's basketball squad were dismissed Tuesday, along with two others, by coach John Cooper, the university announced.

Cooper said Josh Sain (the team's leading scorer with 13.7 points per game), Erick Peguero, Hamilton Nash and last year's top scorer Darius Cox were booted from the Tigers roster for violations of team policy.

"We have put in place team rules and policies that we feel will establish and strengthen our program," Cooper said in a statement released by Tennessee State Tuesday. "Repeated violations will not be tolerated. It is in our best interest to release those who are detrimental to the team's progress."

Sain had missed four games for disciplinary actions this season. Cox missed three.

The dismissals leave the Tigers [4-19, 1-10 in OVC] with just eight scholarship players and one walk-on as they host Jacksonville State at the Gentry Center on Tuesday.

Yes, winning is not everything. The Coach is the leader and self-discipline is what sports and life achievement is all about.

If there is no self discipline what will these young players do with their lives? Good job Coach. I suspect these kids had been warned about issues in the past, by this coach and others, but never had to pay the price. We want a good team, but not a team of thugs and scoflaws.
