University of Tennessee center Josh McNeil was one of 40 players named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list, it was announced Tuesday.

McNeil, a senior from Collins, Miss., is one of 10 Southeastern Conference players on the list, which includes two each from Florida, Georgia and Alabama. There are nine players from the Big 12 with no more than four from any other conference.

The Outland Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s best interior lineman by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee.

McNeil has started 35 consecutive games in his career after having come off the bench in the first three of his freshman season.

Last month, he was named second-team All-SEC preseason by both conference coaches and media who cover the SEC.
