The Vanderbilt football team will open the 2006 season with a bang, announcing Tuesday it has come to terms with the University of Michigan to play a Saturday, Sept. 2 game at the 107,501-capacity Michigan Stadium.

The game, which will kickoff at 11 a.m., will be nationally televised by ESPN.

In doing so, Vanderbilt had to drop a home contest against Middle Tennessee from its schedule. Vanderbilt officials said they are negotiating with MTSU administrators on a replacement date in coming years, which may include a trip to Murfreesboro.

The Commodores have lost three times to the Blue Raiders in the past four years.

David Williams II, Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Athletics at Vanderbilt, said the Michigan game is a one-year deal, with the Wolverines not making a return trip to Nashville.
