For months the Vanderbilt men’s basketball team has known it would play in the 2011 Legends Classic in East Rutherford, N.J.
Now the Commodores know who they will face — North Carolina State.
Vanderbilt learned on Wednesday that it will play the Wolfpack at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 19, which is the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The Commodores will play either Texas or Oregon State in the consolation or championship game on Nov. 21.
The games will be played at the IZOD Center in the New Jersey Meadowlands Sports Complex.
Vanderbilt, North Carolina State, Texas and Oregon State will host regional round games (with opponents to be announced) on their respective campuses from Nov. 13-17. After that, the four hosts are guaranteed a spot in the championship round regardless of how the regional games pan out.
Vanderbilt holds a 2-1 edge all-time against North Carolina State. The teams met most recently in 2004 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Commodores rallied from an 11-point deficit with less than four minutes and pulled out a 75-73 victory and advanced to the Sweet 16.
The Wolfpack went 15-16 last year with a 5-11 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Coach Sidney Lowe resigned after five years as head coach and former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried was hired as his replacement.
