Vanderbilt will open the 2012 football season in front of a national audience.
The Commodores’ season opener against South Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Vanderbilt Stadium will kick off at 6 p.m. and be televised on ESPN, the network announced on Thursday.
It is Vanderbilt’s earliest start to a season since 2008 when the Commodores opened at Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 28. The last time they played a home game on Thursday was also in 2008, also against South Carolina. The Commodores won 24-17, their second of five straight victories to start the season.
Vanderbilt has not defeated South Carolina since and is 4-17 against the Gamecocks all-time.
The Commodores were 6-7 in 2011 and reached the Liberty Bowl. South Carolina finished 11-2 and defeated Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.
Well, I guess the Game Crocks will start the season with a resounding victory.
MetalMan........You must be a student of history!
Not so fast my friend(s). Game Chickens traditionally start slow and there are lots of new faces in the SC offense.
You must be among the crew last year that said VU would never make it to bowl eligibility. Which they did.
Good karma ... positive thoughts. Expect allot from Mr. Franklin and staff and team. If one has low expectations, you are sure to be satisfied. I would much rather be disappointed with a 7-5 finish than pleasantly surprised with a 7-5 finish. Schedule is agreeable this year. No Alabama, LSU, Ark ... Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, UT, Georgia, Kentucky ... very manageable. Missouri is a flier at this point. Not much known, otehr than they looked good last year.
Ammendment 1 to previous post ... RE Mizzou looking good last year ... loked good versus their former Big I can't count conference.
ESPN must be coming to check out the Vandy assistant coaches' wives! Good job, Coach! Get 'em here any way you can.
EVERYTIME Vandy looks like they are making progress they ALWAYS fall flat on their face. They have dont it to me for 30 years so I am staying guarded. But Nashville refuses to support them and 3/4 of the stadium will be the states schools fans. Just not a fun experience for a VU fan. I will expect nothing and hopefully be plesently surprised. A faceplant against SC on national TV? Not a good start.
I will be there cheering on my Dores. Believe we will have a full house and most wearing Black and Gold. They key is getting off to a good start at QB.
