Jermaine Beal had 23 points and led five players in double figures as Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball team defeated the Kilsyth Cobras 102-82 on Tuesday.

With the victory the Commodores improved to 2-0 on their five game Australian exhibition tour.

VU trailed by as many as nine early and were behind by three, 25-22, after the first quarter but pulled ahead by nine and pulled away in the second half.

Beal made nine of 15 field goal attempts, including three of six 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds and three assists with only one steal.

Australian native A.J. Ogilvy had 19 points and eight rebounds, and Jeffery Taylor had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Brad Tinsley (15 points) and Andre Walker (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers.

"I was very pleased with how quickly we turned a nine-point deficit into a 10-point lead," coach Kevin Stallings said in a blog entry on the VU website. "Our depth could be a key for us this year and tonight we wore down a quality team. We will continue to try and use our depth with another game (Wednesday) afternoon."

The Commodores' next contest is against the Australian Institute of Sport, where Ogilvy played during his high school days.
