Vanderbilt collected a pair of Southeastern Conference's weekly basketball awards Monday as junior guard Brad Tinsley was named men's basketball Player of the Week and redshirt-freshman center Stephanie Holzer was named women's basketball Freshman of the Week.

"It is a great accolade to have but I am not going to get too caught up in it," Tinsley said. " ...  was more excited for my team. Just how well we played.... It is just a lot of excitement and a lot of fun right now."

Tinsley recorded the first triple-double in school history when he scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished off 10 assists during the Commodores’ 88-47 season-opening victory against Presbyterian on Friday night.

He set career highs in rebounds and assists and committed just two turnovers. His 10 assists were the most by a Vanderbilt player since Alex Gordon had 10 against Furman on Nov. 20, 2005.

"I love giving assists," Tinsley said. "That is probably what I get the most joy out of, setting up another player for a great shot and seeing him finish it. It is a great feeling."

It was the first player of the week honor for the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Tinsley, who is from Oregon City, Ore.

"Everybody had big questions about us going into the season; about, well can Brad Tinsley handle the point?" coach Kevin Stallings said. "My comment about that all along has been not only can he handle it but I think that will be a strength for us. So far it has proven to be a strength."

Holzer had 20 points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes in the women's season-opening 80-55 victory over Howard on Sunday. She made five of six field goal attempts and 10 off 11 free throws. It was the first time since Tiffany Clarke on Dec. 28, 2009 a VU player had at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the same game.

Holzer also blocked three shots and had two steals.
