Vanderbilt’s Jeffery Taylor, who averaged 20.5 points in two victories last week, was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Taylor, a sophomore forward, scored a career-high 26 points last Tuesday against Tennessee. In that game he was 12-for-12 on free throws, which made him the fourth player in school history to be perfect on 10 or more shots in a single game. He then had 15 points Saturday against LSU.
He also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in those contests.
The Player of the Week award is the first of Taylor’s career and the second of the season for the Commodores (19-5, 8-2 in the SEC). Center A.J. Ogilvy was similarly honored for his play in Week 4.
Vanderbilt’s next game is 6 p.m. Thursday at Ole Miss (ESPNU).
