SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Vanderbilt advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years Saturday with a 78-74 double-overtime victory over 13th-ranked Washington State at Arco Arena.
The Commodores (22-11) will play Georgetown on Friday in East Rutherford, N.J. Game time has yet to be announced.
Derrick Byars led Vanderbilt with 27 points Saturday, 19 coming after halftime. Shan Foster added 20.
VU went ahead for good in double overtime at 73-71 on a put-back basket by Ted Skuchas. Foster's layup with three seconds left sealed the win.
