Memorial Magic was as alive and well as it has ever been at Vanderbilt this season.

By beating Mississippi State on Wednesday, the 16th-ranked Commodores finished 19-0 at home this season.

It marked VU’s first perfect home season since 1992-93 and is the first under current head coach Kevin Stallings.

“We’re proud of it,” Stallings said. “It’s something we wanted to do. I’ve been saying all season long that if you’re going to be a factor of any kind and have a great year, you better be good at home.”

Vanderbilt also recorded perfect home seasons in 1955-56, 1960-61, 1964-65 and 1966-67.

This season, the Commodores began by beating Austin Peay on Nov. 10 and never looked back.

“There were some great performances,” Stallings said. “I think our fans were treated to some pretty amazing basketball by these players.”

BEST FOR LAST: Vanderbilt senior Shan Foster, who scored a career-high 42 points Wednesday against Mississippi State, is playing his best basketball in the twilight of his college career.

He became the first VU player to score at least 20 points in four consecutive games since Matt Freije accomplished the feat in 2004.

Foster on Wednesday pushed his career total for 3-point baskets to 355, third all-time in Southeastern Conference history.

His nine treys against Mississippi State tied the Vanderbilt single-game record held by Mario Moore, who made nine in 2005 against Wichita State.

GOLD NUGGETS: Wednesday’s win pushed Vanderbilt to 10-5 in SEC play, marking the first time since 1988-89 the Commodores have won at least 10 league games in back-to-back seasons. …VU guard Jermaine Beal had seven assists Wednesday for the second straight game. …Forward Ross Neltner matched his career-high with 11 rebounds. …Vanderbilt’s current total of 25 wins ties the school record for the most in regular-season play. The 1992-93 team also won 25 games. …VU is 13-7 in its past 20 Senior Nights.
