Hannah Tuomi scored 20 points, and Jence Rhoads added 18 as Vanderbilt’s women’s basketball team won its first road game of the season, 90-64 over Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
Tuomi made eight of 10 field goal attempts and added nine rebounds. Rhoads was eight-for-11 from the floor and had nine assists with just three turnovers.
Tuomi’s layup with 10:22 to play gave the 22nd-ranked Commodores (2-0) their largest lead, 72-46.
Southern Illinois (0-2) was within five, 39-24, with 3:10 to play in the first half. Rhoads then made a layup that started a 15-0 run, which ended with a layup by Merideth Marsh early in the second half.
Marsh finished with 10 points. Jordan Coleman and Elan Brown each had three steals as Vanderbilt forced 28 turnovers.
The Commodores’ next game is 7 p.m. Friday against California-Riverside at Memorial Gymnasium.
