Aaron Westlake was named a second-team Freshman All-American on Monday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

It is the second All-America honor for Westlake, who finished the season as the Southeastern Conference’s leading hitter. Last week he was recognized by Collegiate Baseball magazine.

Primarily the Commodores’ designated hitter, he appeared in all 63 VU games and hit .377 with 10 home runs and 57 RBIs. He tied for the team lead in home runs and was second in RBIs, total bases (135) and slugging percentage (.565).

Early in the season, injuries to others led to him playing catcher for the first time in his life.

Westlake appeared in 15 games and had 29 at-bats last season before complications from a shoulder injury caused him to miss the remainder of the schedule and earned him a redshirt year.
